KANSAS CITY HERE I COME!!

I decided to post about the touristy stuff Brenda and I did while we were in KC for the Beth Moore event.

(A Cracker Barrel Breakfast is a tradition!) Antiquing, is another tradition! We have the best times, can't you tell?

Some people might think that Beth Moore is just an excuse to sample different antique stores around the Mid-west! Hmmmm...... I showed considerable restraint which is a surprise! I purchased 2 pieces of pink Glass Depressionware-a Biscuit Jar at an awesome price and a Relish Dish. I also got an "Occupied Japan" teacup and a china creamer in purple that I added small purple flowers to, turned out pretty cute I think!!

Brenda and I went to the Frontier Trails Museum in Independence, Mo. Independence was a starting off point for many of the Pioneer Trails to the west, (Santa Fe, Oregon, Mormon, etc). It was a pretty average museum, a lot of what they had were reconstructions or reproductions. Interesting but it was missing the WOW factor!

We toured President Truman's House which was a beautiful Victorian home! I learned a lot about President Truman, for example: This house belonged to Mrs. Truman's mother and when Harry and Bess married in 1919, they moved in with her. Touring the interior of this home you would never guess a former President lived there! They were completely down to earth people and Mr Truman took daily walks in the neighborhood after his Presidency.

(Love the street signs, it has a silouhette of Mr. Truman and the home is located on this intersection of Truman Street. This area is deemed historical so all the homes are held to a specific standard!) We spent nearly an entire day at the Truman Library and Museum. In the Lower Level they had wonderful, personal collections (Bess and Harry's Wedding Day clothing, WW1 Military mementos and so on). The Main Level had a reproduction of the Oval Office, with all of his books, etc, just the way it was from 1945-1953! There were other displays chronicling his Presidency as well. Harry, Bess, their daughter Margaret and her husband are buried in the Courtyard.

LA VIDA LOCA!

It's been almost a month since I last posted and in that time, Blogger has switched to a new format...this looks weird to me! That'll teach me to spend so much time away! I can hardly believe we're halfway through April and I am scratching my head in bewilderment as to where the first 4 months of 2012 have gone! In that time I have been to Whitefish, Montana where we very nearly bought our retirement home. While that house wasn't meant to be for us, we did confirm that this is the area we want to live in as well as finding the right Realtor to look for our specific criteria.

Right after I got home from Montana, I turned around and flew to St Louis to spend a week with our oldest daughter Jennifer and her family. Jenn had surgery and I helped her out in those first days after she came home from the hospital.

A few days after I got home from St Louis, Dave and I drove to Denver to spend a 4 day weekend, visiting with dear friends and doing some antiquing. I got some new pieces of Pink Glass Depressionware to add to what I already have!

(My collection so far!) 2 weeks later, I drove halfway to St Louis to pick up our youngest grand-daughter, Ashley to so she could spend her Spring Break with us!

Last week I drove to Kansas City for a Beth Moore event and just returned this past Tuesday!

I"ll post my Kansas City adventure in the next couple of days! However, I am staying put until June!
